Brick – and – Mortar Stores Will Continue To Play A Key Role in The Region’s Future Retail Model

Dubai-UAE: – The current global retail market has transformed rapidly over the recent years whereby customers are now more engaged in online shopping and e-commerce. However, experts confirm that the traditional retail market will still remain an important aspect of the shopping experience for consumers’ world wide, specifically within the region.

Jayaraman Nair, Chairman, VIS Exhibitions and Conferences, organizer of the trade show Smart Stores Expo, said, “While more and more consumers nowadays are increasingly enjoying the benefits of online shopping, physical stores still have a lot to offer that their online counterparts cannot provide.  The key here is for brick and mortar retailers to reinvent themselves and create better in-store experiences for their shoppers.”

NGS Materials aims to assist designers/ retailers in creating beautiful and organic design elements for their retail design projects. One of the great beauties of using reclaimed materials is that it helps in preserving the English heritage as new building work can remain in character with its environment. The process of recycling materials incurs a smaller carbon footprint than the use of new materials with their associated production and firing processes.

From a design element, reclaimed materials assists in creating a unique and authentic shopping experience for the visiting customer. Consumers have become more consciously aware of retail design elements presented in stores; visual merchandisers today are seen creating more exceptional design arrangements in order to attract customers due to the increase in competition as well as the ease by which e-commerce has created for consumers; the capability to shop from the comfort of their smart phones.

Bernhard Heiden, Creative Director of Interstore AG, expressed the same views and stressed that the focus of shopping in store is giving the customer an experience to remember.  “It’s a must that brick and mortar retailers captivate their customers even before they enter their domain.  Treating your space more like a gallery to indulge your customers’ senses is crucial if your aim is to provide a memorable shopping experience and keep them coming back.  Well-thought visual merchandising, attention grabbing interiors, clever lighting… all these things and some more should be considered when creating a retail environment that positively impacts people’s purchasing habits.”

Retailers now need to focus on how they can keep consumers engaged during the shopping experience, whereby the customer feels encouraged to visit stores due to the unique store ambiance, or because of the intricate design elements that have contributed in creating a welcoming and pleasing shopping experience.

Mr. Fallmann, who is also a member of the Advisory Board for Smart Stores Expo, explained, “Future-proofing your retail store is all about uniqueness.  It’s a given that only brick and mortar can offer that all-important touch and feel experience.  However, retailers should keep in mind that their physical space should offer indulging, personalized experiences compelling enough for customers to keep their phones away and prod them to visit the store.  Nowadays, it’s all about engaging the customer’s senses in a totally immersive retail experience, streamlined and convenient procedures, and essentially making shopping fun and entertaining.”

NGS Materials aims to assist clients/designers in creating beautiful and organic design elements for residential, retail and commercial projects. One of the great beauties of using reclaimed materials is that it helps in preserving the English heritage as new building work can remain in character with its environment. The process of recycling materials incurs a smaller carbon footprint than the use of new materials with their associated production and firing processes. The Building Research Establishment’s “Green Guide to Specification” has suggested that a greater capacity exists for recycling materials such as reclaimed bricks/wood and metal.

Approximately 50% of global resources are consumed by the construction industry; therefore it is important that a sustainable approach is employed in the selection of materials. Sustainable is defined as an approach in which atmospheric destruction in construction is minimized, in order to provide an eco-friendly environment for today’s world in order to prevent harm for future generations.

Buildings are the greatest producers of environmentally harmful gases such as CO2 and this ‘eco-footprint’ is ever increasing. Sourcing re-claimed materials achieves a balance between the benefits of using renewable resources and the associated cost leading to achieving long-term profit from short-term outlay; avert the negative effects of global warming.

NGS Materials have added value to clients’ worldwide in their sustainable consultation of reclaimed materials. Successful projects have been completed with Touchline (Abu Dhabi – Twofour54), Fred Perry (Dubai Mall – Shoes district LEVEL), Cotton On (Worldwide + Deira City Center), St Tropez Bistro (Mall of the Emirates – Dubai) to name a few.
